Comments and Revisions on Lin Biao's [1] Speech Draft at the Meeting with Teachers and Students from All Over the Country in Beijing
(September 15, 1966)

Very good. Made a few revisions, please Lin consider and decide.

Chairman Mao teaches us that the fundamental contradiction to be resolved by the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution is the contradiction between the two classes, the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, and the two roads, socialism and capitalism. The focus of this movement is to struggle against those Party persons in power taking the capitalist road. [2] To bombard the headquarters is to bombard a small handful of persons in power taking the capitalist road. Our country is a socialist country under the dictatorship of the proletariat. The leadership of our country is in the hands of the proletariat. Overthrowing a small handful of persons in power taking the capitalist road is precisely to consolidate and strengthen our proletarian dictatorship. It is very clear that a small handful of reactionary bourgeois elements, landlords, rich peasants, counter-revolutionaries, bad elements, and rightists who have not been properly reformed are different from us. They oppose the dictatorship of the proletariat-led broad revolutionary masses over them. They attempt to bombard our proletarian revolutionary headquarters. Can we allow them to do this? No, we must smash the conspiracies and tricks of these monsters and demons, see through them, and not let their conspiracies succeed. They are only a small handful of people, but they can sometimes deceive some good people. We must firmly grasp the main direction of the struggle. If we deviate from this main direction, we will go astray.
