Letter to Chen Boda [I]
(December 2, 1965)
Comrade Boda:
Have you had a chance to read the nine articles revised by Qiaomu (2J)? If so, please have the messenger take them back with him; there is something I wish to check. If you have not yet finished reading them, I will send them over another day for your consideration.
Mao Zedong

[I]
Chen Boda was at the time an alternate member of the CPC Central Political Bureau, director of the Central Political Research Office, editor-in-chief of the journal Red Flag, and Mao Zedong’s secretary.
[2]
Qiaomu refers to Hu Qiaomu, who was then an alternate member of the CPC Central Secretariat and also Mao Zedong’s secretary.
[3]
This likely refers to the nine documents—articles written by Mao Zedong after the September 1941 meeting of the CPC Central Political Bureau—which criticized Wang Ming’s “left” opportunist line. The articles were divided into nine parts and are therefore known as the “Nine Articles.”
