The predecessor of the Tibet Daily was the “News Briefs” published by the CPC Tibet Working Committee. The Tibet Daily is the official organ of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region Committee and was first published on April 22, 1956, becoming the first daily newspaper in Tibet after its peaceful liberation. The Tibet Daily is issued in both Chinese and Tibetan editions. The Chinese edition’s headline was inscribed by Comrade Mao Zedong, while the Tibetan edition’s was written by Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme. Mao Zedong’s four large characters reading “Tibet Daily” appeared on the front-page lead story of Issue No. 2,911 of the Tibet Daily, dated August 31, 1965.
