Telegram on the Twenty-First Anniversary [I]
(July 21, 1965)
To Comrade Władysław Gomułka, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party;
To Comrade Edward Ochab, Chairman of the State Council of the Polish People’s Republic;
To Comrade Józef Cyrankiewicz, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Polish People’s Republic:

On the occasion of the twenty-first anniversary of the National Day of the Polish People’s Republic, on behalf of the Chinese people, we extend our warmest congratulations to you and to the Polish people.

The Chinese people have always taken a keen interest in the Polish people’s struggle, under the leadership of the Polish United Workers’ Party, to build socialism and safeguard peace, and we are overjoyed at every achievement they have made in this endeavor. We regard your successes as our own.

A profound friendship has long existed between our two peoples, and the relations of friendly cooperation between China and Poland have continued to develop steadily. It is our hope that the fraternal friendship between the Chinese and Polish peoples, as well as the friendly cooperative ties between our two countries, will be further consolidated and advanced on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism.

We wish to take this opportunity to reaffirm that the Chinese people will, as always, firmly support the Polish people in their struggle against West German militarism and revanchism and in their efforts to defend national sovereignty.

May the Polish People’s Republic prosper and flourish. May the friendship between the Chinese and Polish peoples grow ever stronger.

Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China
Liu Shaoqi, President of the People’s Republic of China
Zhu De, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China
