To Zhang Shizhao
(June 26, 1965)

Mr. Xingyan:

Your distinguished work has been received. It is stern in tone and just in principle — I am utterly in admiration and respect. The ancients said: “You give me a wood peach, and I requite you with a precious jade.” Now I present to you five catties each of peaches and apricots. I hope you will kindly accept them! The requital runs counter to the gift—I beg your understanding.

Comrade Hanzhi — how is her health? Herewith send her my greetings, and I hope she will strive and struggle unremittingly, and make progress in her endeavours.
