[1] Khrushchev, formerly First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union. On October 14 and 15, 1964, he was successively removed from these two posts.

[2] This comment was written on a letter dated June 9, 1965, from Kang Sheng, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, and Wu Lengxi, Director of the Xinhua News Agency and Editor-in-Chief of the *People's Daily*, to Mao Zedong, submitting for review the article "Carry the Struggle Against Khrushchev Revisionism Through to the End" by the editorial departments of the *People's Daily* and the *Red Flag* journal.
