Khrushchev, formerly First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, was successively removed from both posts on October 14 and 15, 1964.

These remarks were penned on a letter dated June 9, 1965, sent by Kang Sheng, Alternate Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Secretariat, together with Wu Lengxi, President of the Xinhua News Agency and Editor-in-Chief of People’s Daily, to Mao Zedong. The letter accompanied an article titled “Carry the Struggle Against Khrushchev’s Revisionism to the End,” submitted for review by the editorial departments of People’s Daily and Red Flag magazine.

This refers to the article “Carry the Struggle Against Khrushchev’s Revisionism to the End,” jointly authored by the editorial boards of People’s Daily and Red Flag magazine to mark the second anniversary of the publication of “The Proposal Concerning the General Line of the International Communist Movement.” The article appeared in the June 14, 1965 issue of People’s Daily and in the seventh issue of Red Flag magazine for 1965.
