Telegram on the Twentieth Anniversary
(3 April 1965)

Comrade Kádár János, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party and Premier of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Government of the Hungarian People’s Republic,
Comrade Dobi István, Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Hungarian People’s Republic:

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the liberation of Hungary, we extend to you and to the fraternal Hungarian people our warm congratulations.

In 1945, the Hungarian people, with a glorious revolutionary tradition, smashed the chains of enslavement by German fascism, overthrew the twenty-five-year bloody rule of Horthy, and won the national independence and freedom and liberation they had dreamed of for centuries. Since liberation, the Hungarian people have achieved victory in the struggle against imperialist intervention and subversion and have made tremendous achievements in socialist construction. The Chinese people are extremely gladdened by every success the fraternal Hungarian people have attained on their path of advance.

The peoples of China and Hungary support and cooperate with each other in the cause of opposing imperialism and building socialism. We firmly believe that the peoples of China and Hungary, together with the peoples of the socialist camp, will, on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism, unite still more closely, oppose the aggressive policy and war policy of imperialism headed by the United States, and at present, first of all, resolutely defeat the aggression of U.S. imperialism against the Vietnamese people, and struggle for world peace, national liberation, people’s democracy, and socialism.

We wish the Hungarian people continuous new successes in the cause of building their own motherland, and we wish the friendship and cooperation between the peoples of China and Hungary daily consolidation and development.
