It is with the deepest grief that we express our heartfelt condolences to you.
Comrade Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej led a life of unrelenting struggle.
He was a loyal son of the Romanian people and their revered leader, a close friend of the Chinese people, and an outstanding fighter in the international workers’ movement.
Under his leadership, the Romanian people launched the August 23 Armed Uprising, embarked upon the path of socialist construction, and achieved brilliant victories.
In upholding the principles governing relations among fraternal parties and fraternal states, in safeguarding the unity of the socialist camp and of the international communist movement, and in the struggle to defend world peace, he made significant contributions.
His passing represents not only a grave loss for the Romanian people but also a major loss for the peoples of all socialist countries and for the working people throughout the world.
At this time of great sorrow, we are confident that the Romanian Workers’ Party and the Romanian people will transform their grief into strength, consolidate their unity, persevere in their struggle, and continue to advance along the road to victory.
The Chinese people will, as always, stand in solidarity with the Romanian people on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism, striving together to further develop the friendly cooperation between our two parties and our two peoples, to uphold the unity of the socialist camp and of the international communist movement, and to secure world peace, people’s democracy, national liberation, and socialism.
