Trimmed Magnolia · Passing Through Changsha and Recalling the Past
(Autumn 1964)

Forty to fifty years,
Amid wind and rain as dark as night, never seen again.
Fleeting clouds before the eyes,
In all directions, a boundless line vanishes into the horizon.

Do not boast,
After the calamity, the people's will is the true hero's measure.
Surveying the sea and sky all around,
Along the path we've walked, all the way, smoke trails.
