I have read Document No. 121; it is very good. I am deeply concerned to hear that you are ill. You must rest seriously and follow the doctors’ advice—do not be negligent.

This comment was written on a letter dated November 22, 1964, from Liu Yalou, Commander of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, addressed to Wang Dongxing, Director of the Guard Bureau of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, submitting a report on the downing of a U.S. unmanned aircraft. The letter stated: “I hereby submit one copy of the report. Please either relay it orally to the Chairman or present it directly for his review. Should there be any instructions, please inform us.”

Refers to the report dated November 20, 1964, submitted by Liu Yalou, Commander of the PLA Air Force; Wu Faxian, Political Commissar; Wu Fushan, Deputy Commander; and Zhang Yanfa, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, to Mao Zedong regarding the downing of a U.S. unmanned aircraft. The report briefly outlined how our air force shot down a U.S. military high-altitude unmanned reconnaissance aircraft over the Suixi area of Guangdong Province on November 15, 1964, and provided a preliminary summary of this stratospheric operation.
