Letter to Zhang Pinghua Regarding the Inscription of the Title “Hunan Daily” [1] (July 29, 1964) Comrade Pinghua: The heading of “New Hunan Daily” [3] is not well written and should be changed to “Hunan Daily” to make it consistent with “Hubei Daily.”
I have now written two versions; I wonder if they are acceptable.
If not, please return them for rewriting.
If they are suitable, it would be best to make the change by this year’s National Day.
Please decide as you see fit.
Sincerely, Mao Zedong July 29, 1964 Printed from the manuscript.
Notes [1] On July 29, 1964, Mao Zedong also inscribed titles for “Xinhua Daily,” “Beijing Daily,” and “Tianjin Daily.” [2] Zhang Pinghua was then First Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the CPC. [3] “New Hunan Daily” was the official organ of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the CPC and was renamed “Hunan Daily” on October 1, 1964. £± ８
