Congratulating the Bridegroom · Reading History
(Spring 1964 [II])

Man diverged from the ape,
Only a few stones were ground and carved,
The age of the little child.
Flames churned in the iron and steel furnace,
To ask when this could be guessed,
Only a few thousand colds and heats.

In the human world, it is hard to encounter an open smile,
On the battlefield, each bends the bow like a crescent moon.
It flowed everywhere,
The blood of the suburban plains.

One chapter read through, the hair flies snow-white,
But only remembered a few speckled spots and mottled dots,
A few lines of old traces.
The sacred deeds of the Five Emperors and Three Sovereigns,
Deceived the boundless passing travelers.
How many men of true mettle and merit?
After Dao Zhi and Zhuang Qiao spread their renown,
Then King Chen rose up and brandished the yellow battle-axe.
The song not yet ended,
The east turns white.
