To Zhou Shizhao\[1\]
(January 31, 1964)

Dunyuan\[2\] my brother:

Your two esteemed letters and two major works,
along with the letter from our fellow student Yu, have all been received. I am sending you 2,000 yuan. Please distribute 1,500 yuan as a gift to Mr. Li\[3\] for medical expenses, and 500 yuan to our fellow student Yu. The interpretations of my humble works are not entirely the same; you may interpret them as you see fit. We can discuss this in detail when we meet.

Wishing you peace and good health.

\[1\] Zhou Shizhao, courtesy name Dunyuan, was a classmate of Mao Zedong at the Hunan First Normal School. At the time of this letter, he was serving as Vice Governor of Hunan Province.
\[2\] Dunyuan refers to Zhou Shizhao.
\[3\] Li is likely Li Shuqing, a progressive teacher in Shaoshan before the 1911 Revolution. Mao Zedong often visited his home to read and seek advice. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as a researcher at the Hunan Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History.
