To the
Revisions to the Draft Editorial of *Renmin Ribao* on Strengthening Unity [I]
(July 1963)

We have only the obligation to uphold principles, eliminate differences, strengthen unity, and jointly confront the enemy.
We have no right to abandon principles, widen differences, create splits, and take the enemy as a friend.

[I] The original title of this draft editorial was *Uphold Principles, Eliminate Differences, Strengthen Unity, Jointly Confront the Enemy*. When Mao Zedong reviewed it, he changed the title to *We Want Unity, Not Splits*. The editorial was published in *Renmin Ribao* on July 13, 1963. The text printed in Song typeface in this piece was added by Mao Zedong.
