Telegram of Congratulations from Mao Zedong et al. on the Forty-Fifth Anniversary of the October Socialist Revolution (November 6, 1962)

To Comrade Nikita S. Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, and to Comrade Leonid I. Brezhnev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR:

On the occasion of the forty-fifth anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, on behalf of the Chinese people, the Communist Party of China, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, we extend our warm and heartfelt congratulations to you, and through you to the Soviet people, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and the Government of the Soviet Union.

The October Socialist Revolution is one of the greatest revolutions in human history. Its victory fundamentally shook the very foundations of imperialist rule and ushered in a new epoch in which humanity is making the transition from capitalism to socialism and communism. Over nearly half a century, the proletariat and working people of the entire world, following the bright path pointed out by the October Revolution toward thorough liberation and the march to socialism and communism, have launched fierce assaults upon the imperialist system, achieving one great victory after another. Today, the struggle of the peoples of all countries for world peace, national liberation, democracy, and socialism is surging forward with unprecedented vigor; no force in the world can stem this mighty revolutionary torrent as it sweeps onward.

Following the victory of the October Socialist Revolution, the great Soviet people, under the glorious leadership of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, crushed imperialist armed intervention and domestic counterrevolutionary rebellions, defeated the German fascist onslaught, overcame countless difficulties on all fronts, and successfully built the Soviet Union into a socialist power with highly developed industry, agriculture, and science and culture. Moreover, they have made outstanding contributions to safeguarding world peace and supporting the revolutionary struggles of oppressed peoples and nations.

At present, the Soviet people, under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union headed by Comrade Khrushchev, are striving hard to build communism. The Chinese people rejoice immensely at the brilliant achievements attained by our fraternal Soviet people in the cause of socialist and communist construction. The friendship and solidarity between the peoples of China and the Soviet Union are founded upon Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism; they are eternal and unbreakable. The strengthening and development of this fraternal friendship and unity serve the highest interests of the peoples of both China and the Soviet Union, as well as of all the peoples of the world. The Chinese people will, as always, uphold the revolutionary principles set forth in the Moscow Declaration and the Moscow Statement, and will continue to exert every effort to safeguard and reinforce the unity of the two peoples, as well as the unity of the entire socialist camp and the international communist movement. The Chinese people will forever stand side by side with the Soviet people, fighting to the bitter end against imperialism, in defense of world peace, and in furtherance of the cause of human progress.

We wish the fraternal Soviet people new and momentous achievements in their grand undertaking of building communism, and may the great friendship between the peoples of China and the Soviet Union endure forever!
