Letter to Zhang Renxi and Zhang Renjia [1]
(July 19, 1962)

Comrades Renxi and Renjia,

I received your letter of July 14, 1962. I am shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the passing of our teacher Mr. Youjin [2] due to illness. I hereby convey my heartfelt condolences.

I am also enclosing a modest contribution to help with the funeral expenses.
P.S.

[1] Zhang Renxi was then a cadre in the Changsha Municipal Tax Bureau. Zhang Renjia was then a professor at the Hubei College of Finance and Economics. Both were sons of Zhang Youjin.
[2] Youjin, namely Zhang Youjin, taught mathematics at the Hunan First Normal School when Mao Zedong was a student there.
