This document, compiled by Chen Boda, alternate member of the CPC Central Political Bureau and Mao Zedong’s secretary, contains the following:
(1) In 1958, each agricultural worker in the United States was responsible for providing agricultural products sufficient to meet the consumption needs of an average of 30 persons. (2) In the same year, agricultural workers in the United Kingdom supplied 50 percent of the nation’s total agricultural output, meaning that each worker had to support the consumption of 26.7 persons on average. (3) Also in 1958, each agricultural worker in the Soviet Union was responsible for meeting the consumption needs of an average of 6.4 persons.
