Telegram of Congratulations from Mao Zedong et al. on the Sixteenth Anniversary of the Socialist Revolution in Bulgaria (September 8, 1960)

To Comrade Todor Zhivkov, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party; to Comrade Dimitar Ganev, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria; and to Comrade Anton Yugov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria:

On the occasion of the sixteenth anniversary of the socialist revolution in Bulgaria, on behalf of the Communist Party of China, the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese people, we extend fraternal congratulations to the Bulgarian Communist Party, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian people.

The Chinese people follow with great pleasure the achievements attained by our fraternal Bulgarian comrades under the leadership of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria in the cause of building socialism and safeguarding peace in Europe and throughout the world.

The Bulgarian people are working diligently to complete the Third Five-Year Plan ahead of schedule; its successful realization will further enhance the prosperity and flourishing of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. The development of the fraternal friendship between the peoples of China and Bulgaria, founded on Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism, is conducive to the socialist construction of both countries and to the strengthening of the socialist camp led by the Soviet Union.

The Chinese people will strive to uphold and further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between our two peoples. We wish the Bulgarian people new successes in their endeavors to build socialism, maintain world peace, and promote human progress. May the unbreakable fraternal friendship between the peoples of China and Bulgaria be further consolidated and enriched.
