This telegram, sent by the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 23, 1960, states:
Yesterday, Shodaifu, a cadre from the Bulgarian Fatherland Front rapporteur group, came to our embassy to request the *Renmin Ribao* editorial "Hold High the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Banner of the Moscow Declaration." During the visit, he expressed the following views to our embassy personnel:
(1) The attitude of the Chinese Party in the article "Long Live Leninism" is so clear, firm, and correct, whereas the attitude of the Bulgarian Communist Party is not clear-cut; they should learn from the Chinese Communist Party.
(2) The Chinese Party and Comrade Mao Zedong are the organ and person formulating the current guiding principles and policies for the international proletarian revolution and the workers' movement. We attach great importance to the views and attitudes put forward by the Chinese Party.
(3) Some people still do not have a clear understanding of the current international situation, but they will come to recognize it in the future, because there is only one truth. I and some comrades very much agree with China's view that the essence of imperialism has not changed. We talk about peaceful coexistence every day, causing people to lose their vigilance; this is very dangerous.
(4) The Bulgarian people, especially those in the rural areas, are very interested in the Chinese people's communes. I understand its nature; it contains elements of communism.
(5) It is hoped that the Chinese Embassy can provide more materials more frequently and introduce more things about China.
