(July 1960)

A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near.

This telegram, sent by the Chinese Embassy in Czechoslovakia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 24, 1960, stated:
On the night of July 22, at a reception held by our delegation to the Czechoslovak International Film Festival, a worker Party member from the Lenin Factory in Czechoslovakia took the initiative to talk with Chen Bo, director of the August First Film Studio. He mentioned:
(1) After Lenin, Mao Zedong is the greatest theoretician in the world; his thought is completely consistent with Lenin’s thought, and he is an example for all Communists throughout the world.
(2) Mao Zedong is adept at applying Marxism-Leninism, whereas the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia applies it improperly and repeats the mistakes once made by the Soviet Union.
(3) He stressed the need to uphold the cause of Comrade Gottwald.
(4) He expressed elation and encouragement over the anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist struggles around the world, believing that such struggles can accelerate the demise of capitalism.
(5) He expressed the hope that China would liberate Taiwan at an early date.
(6) He praised the approach of not inviting Americans to this reception as very good.
