This batch of documents is interesting, sixteen items in all[2]; please have them printed as a booklet (immediately[3]) and distributed to the comrades[4].

[1] Shangkun, i.e., Yang Shangkun, then alternate secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the Central Committee.
[2] These sixteen documents include: a telegram dated 1 July 1960 from the Chinese Embassy in Denmark to the International Liaison Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the Chairman of the Communist Party of Denmark, Jespersen, talking about his impressions of visiting China; a telegram dated 30 June from Chinese Ambassador to Poland Wang Bingnan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Liaison Department concerning a visit and conversation with the Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party; a telegram dated 29 June from the Chinese Embassy in Hungary to the International Liaison Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning an internal Hungarian reference publication carrying Khrushchev’s speech at the reception of the Romanian Workers’ Party; a telegram dated 1 July from the Chinese Embassy in the Soviet Union to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the Soviet press and Soviet leaders continuing to vigorously propagate their arguments on questions such as peaceful coexistence; a telegram dated 29 June from the Chinese Embassy in the Soviet Union to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the Soviet press making no mention whatsoever of our *Renmin Ribao* editorial of the 29th commenting on the Bucharest Conference; a telegram dated 2 July from Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Ke Hua to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the situation of today’s reception by Ghanaian President Nkrumah, etc. When Mao Zedong gave instructions for their printing and distribution, he entitled these materials *Sixteen Reports on the Current Situation*.
