Comment on the Summary of Montgomery's [1] Speech at the De La Rue Company Banquet [2]
(June 1960)

For Jiang Qing to read. One should study why he wanted to say these things.

Published according to Mao Zedong's manuscript.

Notes

1. During his time in China, he saw that the Chinese civilization, which has continued for several thousand years, has only been pushed forward and has not been damaged under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The revolution has been beneficial to China; corruption, depravity, local ruffians, hooligans, and foreign devils have all been driven out. Of course, blood was also shed, which cannot but be called a regrettable matter, but it seems there was no way to do it without shedding blood.
2. He had told Chairman Mao Zedong that although the revolution caused many people to lose their heads, which certainly cannot be considered a good thing, it was not entirely a bad thing either. For this, Chairman Mao Zedong called him an enlightened British Field Marshal.
3. The Chinese leaders he met were all learned and very wise. What the West says about Chinese leaders having little understanding of the world is incorrect. He recommended that everyone attending the banquet read Mao Zedong's works on war.
4. After visiting socialist countries such as the Soviet Union and China, he drew two conclusions. First, since the Western countries have no way to eliminate communism, they must find a way to coexist with communism. Second, while coexisting, the Western countries must make every effort to preserve the foundation of their own Christian civilization and carry it forward.
