[1] This internal document, circulated on May 16, 1960, contains excerpts from speeches and articles delivered or published in April 1960. Specifically, it includes excerpts from President Tito and other Yugoslav leaders’ reports at the Congress of the Socialist Alliance of Working People of Yugoslavia; Tito’s conversation with the editor of the Yugoslav newspaper Radnik on the eve of May Day; the article “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin,” published in the Yugoslav newspaper Borba on April 22, along with the accompanying editorial note added when the journal Red Flag’s editorial was reprinted on April 27; the editorial “The True Purpose,” featured in the weekly Communist on May 12; and the commentary “The Power of Bandung,” published in the political newspaper Politika on April 18.

[3] Kang refers to Kang Sheng, who at that time was an alternate member of the CPC Central Political Bureau and deputy head of the Central Cultural and Educational Leading Group. Yang refers to Yang Shangkun, who was then an alternate secretary of the CPC Central Secretariat and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee. Tian refers to Tian Jiaying, who served as deputy director of the CPC Central Research Office and was Mao Zedong’s secretary.
