Telegram on the Fifteenth Anniversary
(April 2, 1960)

Comrade Kádár János, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party,
Comrade Dobi István, Chairman of the Presidium of the Hungarian People’s Republic,
Comrade Münnich Ferenc, Premier of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Government of the Hungarian People’s Republic:

On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the liberation of Hungary, we wish, on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party, the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese people, to extend to you, and through you to the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party, the Hungarian Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Government, and the Hungarian people, our warm, fraternal congratulations.

Over the past fifteen years, under the leadership of the working class, which has a glorious revolutionary tradition, and its party, the Hungarian people have achieved brilliant successes in the cause of socialist revolution and socialist construction.

After the imperialist and domestic counter-revolutionary attacks were smashed in 1956, under the correct leadership of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party and the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Government headed by Comrade Kádár, the Hungarian people strengthened the dictatorship of the proletariat, rapidly restored and developed the national economy, and attained especially great achievements in the socialist transformation of agriculture. Today, the Hungarian People’s Republic is stronger than at any time in the past. The Seventh Congress of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party, held not long ago, set forth the militant tasks of completing the work of laying the foundations of socialism and accelerating socialist construction in the coming years. We are deeply convinced that the industrious and wise Hungarian people, with incomparable labour enthusiasm, will victoriously fulfil this glorious task.

The Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party has consistently remained loyal to Marxism-Leninism, upheld the principles of proletarian internationalism, opposed modern revisionism, and unceasingly strengthened the great unity of the socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union. In international affairs, the Hungarian Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Government has also unswervingly carried out a foreign policy based on the Leninist principles of peaceful coexistence. In response to the schemes of the imperialist bloc headed by the United States, which on the one hand persists in arms expansion and war preparations and on the other hand intensifies its sabotage against the socialist countries, the Hungarian People’s Republic, together with the other socialist countries, has waged an unremitting struggle and won major victories.

The Chinese people have always regarded every achievement of the Hungarian people as their own and have rejoiced and been inspired by these brilliant achievements. In recent years, along with the continuous upsurge of socialist construction in our two countries, the close cooperation between our two countries in the political, economic, and cultural fields has also undergone tremendous development. The Sino-Hungarian Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, signed a year ago, has further consolidated in treaty form the eternal and unbreakable fraternal friendship between the peoples of our two countries. This is of great significance for promoting the common prosperity of the economies and cultures of our two countries and for enhancing the might of the socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union.

We wholeheartedly wish the Hungarian people, under the leadership of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party, new and still greater achievements in the struggle to accelerate socialist construction and in the efforts to safeguard world peace and strengthen the socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union. May the fraternal friendship between the Chinese and Hungarian peoples endure forever.
