Comment on the Material on Two Automated Pig-Raising Lines
(March 25, 1960)

Distribute to all comrades. This material is very good. All provinces, municipalities, and regions may send personnel to Harbin to observe and study; after completing their studies and returning, they should proceed accordingly.

--- Notes

Refers to the material "Two Automated Pig-Raising Lines Built in Harbin City," submitted on March 25, 1960, by Li Xiannian, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and Vice Premier of the State Council. It was published in Issue No. 3011 of *Internal Reference*, compiled and printed by Xinhua News Agency on March 23. The material stated that the Experimental Farm of the Northeast Agricultural College in Harbin and the Xiangfang People's Commune in the city's suburbs had each built an automated pig-raising line, enabling one person to raise over 2,000 and 3,000 pigs respectively, greatly increasing labor productivity. Among them, the automated pig-raising line of the Northeast Agricultural College consisted of three parts: a feed processing room, a feeding hall for sows and piglets, and a fattening pig house, all operated by electric power. The automated pig-raising line of the Xiangfang People's Commune consisted of three parts: feed crushing, steaming and boiling, and feed delivery. The structures of these two automated lines were not complex; the automated line of the Xiangfang People's Commune was particularly simple, with equipment mostly made of wood. All state-run agricultural and pastoral farms and large-scale pig farms of people's communes with access to electric power can fully adopt them. Places with poorer conditions can also adopt parts of them.
