A note by the editor-in-chief of Poland’s Political Weekly commenting on the article “Troubling Questions” within the Polish Communist Party, dated December 1959, is hereby forwarded to all comrades. Returned to Mao. This piece [1] may be read. Printed from Mao Zedong’s manuscript. Note [1]: The material, published in Issue 603 of the CCP Central Committee Propaganda Department’s “Propaganda and Education Briefing” (compiled and printed on December 17, 1959), states that the forty-fourth issue of Poland’s Political Weekly carried an article titled “Troubling Questions,” written by the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Rakowski, which discussed the political and ideological situation within the Polish Communist Party: (1) A decline in political enthusiasm. (2) The emergence of a series of questions raised by the people concerning the Party’s work. (3) Other undesirable phenomena: leaders pay no attention to ideological work; insufficient effort is made to combat negative tendencies; self-preservation and collusion prevail; and profit-seeking dominates.
