This is a comment written to forward the report by Lin Tie, First Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, on the situation of the Wang Guofan People’s Commune. The title was drafted by Mao Zedong. Wang Guofan was then serving as the director of the Jianming People’s Commune in Zunhua County, Hebei Province.
[2] In this report to Mao Zedong dated November 26, 1959, Lin Tie stated: A few days ago I visited the Wang Guofan People’s Commune and found that this commune’s production results this year represent a simultaneous leap forward in all five trades and an all-round great harvest. This is mainly because they relied on the strength of the large collective of the People’s Commune, mustered full enthusiasm, inherited and carried forward the glorious tradition of running the commune with diligence and thrift, struggled arduously, and improved production conditions. Since last year, this commune has also carried out large-scale water conservancy construction and actively promoted agricultural mechanization and electrification. It is now beginning to vigorously develop commune-run enterprises to create conditions for further development.
