Telegram of Congratulations from Mao Zedong et al. on the Fifteenth Anniversary of the Socialist Revolution in Bulgaria (September 8, 1959) To Comrade Todor Zhivkov, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party; to Comrade Dimitar Ganev, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria; and to Comrade Anton Yugov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria: On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the socialist revolution in Bulgaria, on behalf of the Communist Party of China, the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese people, we extend our warmest congratulations to the Bulgarian Communist Party, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian people.
Over the past fifteen years, under the leadership of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian people, through selfless labor, have transformed their homeland from a backward agricultural country into an advanced socialist industrial and agricultural state.
Recently, throughout the country, the Bulgarian people have launched a vigorous upsurge in the development of industrial and agricultural production, courageously striving with full confidence to complete the Third Five-Year Plan ahead of schedule within three or four years.
The Bulgarian people have consistently remained faithful to the great principles of proletarian internationalism, making important contributions to the defense of the purity of Marxism-Leninism and to the preservation of unity within the international communist movement.
The Chinese people are profoundly delighted by these tremendous victories and achievements attained by our fraternal Bulgarian comrades.

In international affairs, the People’s Republic of Bulgaria has consistently sympathized with and supported the struggles of the peoples of Asia, Africa, and Latin America against imperialism and colonialism for national independence, and has made unremitting efforts to ease international tensions and safeguard peace in Europe and throughout the world.
The fraternal friendship between the peoples of China and Bulgaria, founded on the principles of proletarian internationalism, is eternal and unbreakable.
In recent years, close cooperation between our two peoples in political, economic, and cultural fields has grown considerably.
This cooperation will greatly contribute to promoting the common prosperity of our two countries and to strengthening the socialist camp led by the Soviet Union.
We wish the Bulgarian people new and even greater successes in their struggle to build socialism and to maintain peace.
May the fraternal friendship between the peoples of China and Bulgaria endure forever.
