Letter to Liu Shaoqi and Others Concerning Inviting Peng Zhen[1] and Others to Lushan for the Conference
(July 16, 1959)

Shaoqi, Enlai, Shangkun[2]:

Regarding those in Beijing, such as Peng Zhen, Chen Yi, Huang Kecheng, An Ziwen[3], a number of ministers, and several vice-chairmen of the Three Commissions[4] (not too many, around ten people will suffice)—can we invite them to come here and participate in the final week of the conference? As for managing the work in Beijing, we can transfer a few comrades back from here, or have the second-in-command in Beijing hold the fort for a few days. Please consider the above. Also, how is Chen Yun[5]’s illness? Is it possible to invite him to come here and attend the seven-day conference? Please seek Chen Yun’s opinion. If he can come, let him come; if not, he should not come. Please also consider this point.
