[1] Shangkun, namely Yang Shangkun, then serving as Alternate Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.
[2] This material, reprinted in Issue No. 124 of the "Political Work Bulletin" compiled and printed on June 24, 1959, by the Secretariat of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army, stated that according to reports from the Political Department of the 42nd Army and the Political Department of the Hainan Military District, a small number of battalion and regiment cadres expressed resistance and dissatisfaction with the economic hardship, believing the economic hardship to be comprehensive and impossible to resolve in the long term, denying the inevitability and superiority of establishing people's communes, attacking local cadres, and also expressing dissatisfaction with various Party regulations concerning economic life, believing the economic strain to be due to errors in the line. Similar situations also existed among a small number of company and platoon cadres.
