Refers to a letter forwarded by the editorial department of the *China Youth Daily* on June 8, 1959, from a reader in Lianshui County, Jiangsu Province, writing under the pseudonym Dongfeng. The letter reflected the actual situation in the local countryside since the "Great Leap Forward," including falsification and deception, abysmal work styles among cadres, hardships in the peasants' livelihood, declining living standards for students, a decrease in draught oxen, insufficient fertilizer, and a shortage of labor.
