Record of a Conversation with Chilean Political Figures (Excerpt)
(May 15, 1959)

Teaching is a very good thing. Maintaining relationships with students is very pleasant, especially when serving as a university professor. If you want to pursue scholarship, you should become a professor.

I have several philosophical works, which I wrote precisely because teaching required me to write them. Therefore, being a professor is good. To prepare lessons, you must write your own lecture notes; it is best not to use others’ textbooks. The students compel you to teach, and you always need to peddle something. I still want to be a professor now. As you said, my knowledge has increased; I might serve as a professor, or as a lecturer, or as an assistant professor.
