Get to the facts.

There is no such thing as waste in the world. It is like playing mahjong—everything depends on "drawing" and "bumping." The waste of the player above is the sustenance of the player below.

What is this "maybe"? Hesitation and indecision. Change these two words to "definitely."

Foreign markets are extremely important and must not be underestimated. We must tighten our belts and practice frugality; we cannot export everything. We should eat a little less ourselves.

We must promote increased production and economy.

How should "industry run by the whole people" be explained? There has been too much talk about industry run by the whole people, but almost none about agriculture run by the whole people.

The original foundation of the working class was four million people. During the Great Revolution (1926), there were two million. Over twenty-three years, it increased by two million. By 1949, it was four million. In the eight years since liberation, from 1949 to 1957, it increased by an average of one million per year—an increase of eight million people. From the Opium War to 1949, over 109 years, there were only four million. Yet from 1949 to 1957, in just eight years, it increased by eight million. Last year alone, it increased by [redacted] million. This is an exceptional phenomenon. If we continue like this, in one year it will be [redacted] million, and in ten years, [redacted] million. There will be people without machines, and the work of one person may have to be done by seven or eight. The United States has 170 million people, with six million employed—including "Voice of America" and the like—only sixty million people. If we continue like this, in ten years there will be [redacted] million people. What will we do? Apprentices earn 216 yuan a year. Able-bodied young men earn money in the cities, while the old and weak eat in the countryside. The strong are scattered in all directions, while the old and weak remain in the cities. As a result, labor productivity declines. This does not conform to Marxism, nor does it conform to socialism.
