Telegram from Mao Zedong and Others Congratulating Hungary on the 14th Anniversary of Its Liberation

(April 3, 1959)

Comrade Kádár János, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party,
Comrade Dobi István, Chairman of the Presidium of the Hungarian People's Republic,
Comrade Münnich Ferenc, Premier of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Government of the Hungarian People's Republic:

On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Hungary's liberation, we wish, on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party, the Government of the People's Republic of China, and the Chinese people, to extend warm congratulations to you and, through you, to the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party, the Hungarian Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Government, and the Hungarian people.

Over the past year, the industrious and courageous Hungarian people, under the correct leadership of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party and the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Government, have achieved tremendous successes on all fronts in building the great cause of socialism. They are now engaged in selfless labour to accelerate socialist construction and fulfil the Three-Year Plan ahead of schedule. The Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party, with its glorious revolutionary tradition, and the Hungarian people have unswervingly struggled to safeguard and strengthen the great unity of the socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union and to defend the purity of Marxism-Leninism. The Hungarian Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Government has consistently pursued a foreign policy of peace, making significant contributions to thwarting the imperialist schemes of war and aggression and to safeguarding human progress and the cause of world peace.

The peoples of China and Hungary have forged a profound friendship on the basis of proletarian internationalism and have always shown mutual concern and support for each other in the common cause of socialist revolution and socialist construction. The Chinese people feel heartfelt joy at the great achievements the Hungarian people have attained in all fields. We warmly wish the Hungarian people even greater successes in building socialism and safeguarding world peace, and we wish the unbreakable friendship between the peoples of China and Hungary ever-growing development.
