“U.S. Political Atmosphere Developing in a Positive Direction”
(November 27, 1958)
This analysis by the Central Investigation Department is very interesting; it is similar to Huan Xiang’s analysis of the European situation .

Refers to a report by the CCP Central Investigation Department concerning the domestic political situation following the U.S. congressional elections. Upon reviewing it, Mao Zedong changed the title to “U.S. Political Atmosphere Developing in a Positive Direction.” The main points are as follows: First, in the U.S. congressional elections, the ruling Republican Party suffered its most devastating defeat since Roosevelt’s New Deal, and the Democratic Party will continue to hold an overwhelming majority in Congress for the next four years. The vast majority of newly elected or re-elected members belong to the Democratic Party’s liberal wing, thereby significantly strengthening that faction both within the Democratic Party and in Congress.
Second,
within the Republican Party, the conservative forces representing the Midwestern corporate interests have been severely weakened. Notorious far-right figures either lost their bids or retired when they saw the tide turning against them. Third, these elections and the post-election situation indicate:
(1) Amid a severe economic crisis, class contradictions within the U.S. ruling circles and domestically have intensified.
(2) The political atmosphere inside the United States is developing in a positive direction. People from all walks of life generally fear war, reject warmongers and fascist tendencies, and nearly all of the extreme right-wing Republicans who came to power during the heyday of McCarthyism were defeated. (3) The Republican administration will face even greater difficulties going forward. Eisenhower has stated that the government’s basic policies will remain unchanged, yet U.S. government spending cannot be curbed, which is bound to accelerate inflation and the fiscal and financial crisis. The United States is also preparing to intensify its economic expansion into colonial and semi-colonial regions in order to shift the crisis outward, while continuing to use military force to support such aggressive activities. However, the growing influence of the Democratic Party’s liberal faction in Congress will inevitably impose greater constraints on the administration, and internal strife within the United States is certain to become even more acute.
Mao Zedong’s comments, together with this report, were later circulated at the Sixth Plenary Session of the Eighth CPC Central Committee.

They are both good articles. In short, the Western world is improving day by day, and both the proletariat’s direct and indirect allies are growing.
