I received your letter of October 5 (I J ). On behalf of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese people, and in my own name, I extend warm congratulations on the birth of the Republic of Guinea and on the great victory achieved by the Guinean people in their struggle for national independence. It is my hope that my government’s recognition of your country will lead to the further development of friendly relations between our two peoples. I wish your country prosperity and its people happiness.

Refers to the telegram sent by Mr. Sékou Touré, Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, to Mao Zedong on October 4, 1958. The telegram stated: “It is my honor to inform you that on October 2, 1958, the National Assembly of Guinea proclaimed the establishment of the Republic of Guinea. The Guinean government was formed on the same day. As an independent and sovereign state, Guinea wishes to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China on the basis of international cooperation.”
