Conversation with Chen Changfeng
(August 9, 1958)
Shandong is a very good place; it has a large base area. Many county seats have recently been liberated, and there is a great need for cadres. When you go there, you must respect the local authorities, the local cadres, and the heads of new organizations. You should work closely and harmoniously with the local cadres.
As for studying, it’s not about seeking official positions but rather about doing more for the people. Of course, there will be many difficulties in the process of learning. However, as long as you are determined to serve the people, you can overcome any obstacle. Being an instructor is also revolutionary work—does one really have to hold some high office?
Anyone who comes to the Communist Party just to become an official has come to the wrong door! What “officialdom” do we even have here? We are all equal. We are here to serve the people. Naturally, there’s no question of getting rich by joining us, nor will those who seek promotion achieve their goal.
