Producing a few atomic and hydrogen bombs, I believe, is entirely feasible within ten years. We must make a firm decision to develop cutting-edge technology. It’s actually quite fortunate that Khrushchev has refused to supply us with such technology; had he done so, the price would have been extremely difficult to pay. Even if it takes five years rather than three, or ten instead of five, we will eventually succeed in developing these weapons. We need the atomic bomb, and we should move swiftly to acquire the hydrogen bomb as well—regardless of which country possesses them or what kind of bombs they are. We must surpass all others in this field.
