Comrade Tao Zhu [I]:
Comments on the Letter Regarding the Rectification Campaign
(April 27, 1958)
With regard to the issues raised in this document, please dispatch a comrade who is politically strong to conduct a thorough investigation. Sectarianism may indeed be present, but whether there were any special circumstances related to the deceased that led to his death also warrants careful and detailed examination. The person sent should bring no preconceived notions; instead, they should proceed solely from a desire to seek the truth. Once the facts are clarified, all doubts can be dispelled. I have heard that you are ill, so please rest and recuperate. Resume work only when you have fully recovered—there is no need to rush. As for this incident in Chaoshan, it can be handled by entrusting a few brief instructions to one of the secretaries.
