Letter to Huang Yanpei [1]
(February 29, 1958)
Elderly Ren:
Your gracious letter of the 21st [2] has been received and noted.
The current situation is indeed favorable, and if given appropriate guidance,
it will surely generate great strength. A month ago, in your letter [3] discussing the matter of deep burial, you struck a chord with my own thoughts.
At a suitable opportunity in the future, it may be promoted and implemented.
With respectful regards,
Mao Zedong

[1] Huang Yanpei,
courtesy name Renzhi, was then serving as Chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
[2] Refers to Huang Yanpei's letter to Mao Zedong dated February 23, 1958. In the letter, he described observations made during a visit with a central group of the China Democratic National Construction Association to commercial areas in Beijing on Lunar New Year's Eve: there was no crowding in the markets as had occurred in the past, many shop assistants worked overtime during the Spring Festival to serve customers;
some public-private joint enterprises exchanged challenge letters and pledges, proposing activities to compare ideology, learning, hygiene, frugality, drive, and dedication to study, indicating that private sector personnel, including members of the China Democratic National Construction Association, were determined to abandon the bourgeois standpoint and shift to a socialist standpoint.
