Message of Condolence to the President of Indonesia,
Sukarno
(December 4, 1957)
His Excellency President Sukarno of the Republic of Indonesia:
We have learned with deep concern that on November 30 Your
Excellency was suddenly attacked by bandits. On behalf of the
Chinese people, I extend to You our heartfelt sympathy and express
our profound sorrow for those who unfortunately lost their lives in
this incident.

The Chinese people firmly support Indonesia’s just struggle to
recover West Irian and are convinced that all conspiratorial plots
harmful to Indonesia’s national interests will surely fail.

Mao Zedong
President of the People’s Republic of China
