A Letter to Pravda Expressing Gratitude for the Soviet People’s Friendship (November 20, 1957)

To the Editorial Board of Pravda:

Dear Comrades:

We, the delegation of the People’s Republic of China attending the celebrations marking the fortieth anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, have received during our stay in your great country a large number of letters and telegrams from Soviet citizens, some of which were accompanied by precious gifts. These letters, telegrams, and gifts are imbued with the warmest expressions of the Soviet people’s most sincere fraternal feelings and best wishes toward the Chinese people, toward our delegation and its members, and toward myself personally.

We regard these sentiments of the Soviet people as a symbol of the unbreakable, great friendship between the peoples of China and the Soviet Union.

As it would be difficult for my colleagues and me to reply individually to so many letters and telegrams, please allow us, through your esteemed newspaper, to convey the heartfelt thanks of six hundred million Chinese people, of all the members of the delegation of the People’s Republic of China, and of myself, to the Soviet people and to all the Soviet comrades who sent us these letters, telegrams, and gifts.
