Telegram from Mao Zedong et al. Congratulating the Polish People’s Republic on its National Day
(July 20, 1957)
To Comrade Aleksander Zawadzki, Chairman of the State Council of the Polish People’s Republic,
To Comrade Józef Cyrankiewicz, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Polish People’s Republic,
To Comrade Adam Rapacki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Polish People’s Republic:
On the occasion of the thirteenth anniversary of the founding of the Polish People’s Republic, on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese people, we hereby extend to you, and through you to the Polish people, our fraternal and warmest congratulations.
The Chinese people are watching with great pleasure the magnificent achievements made by the brotherly Polish people under the leadership of the Polish United Workers’ Party and the Government of the Polish People’s Republic—in safeguarding and developing the socialist cause in Poland, as well as in defending world peace. It gives us particular joy to note that the mutual visits of the Prime Ministers of China and Poland have further consolidated and deepened the profound friendship between our two peoples, and have promoted the development of friendly cooperative relations between China and Poland in political, economic, cultural, and other fields.
We wish the Polish people ever greater successes in building socialism, in consolidating the people’s democratic system, and in advancing the cause of peace in Europe and throughout the world. May the fraternal friendship and cooperation between the peoples of China and Poland continue to grow and be strengthened.
Mao Zedong, President of the People’s Republic of China
Liu Shaoqi, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China
Zhou Enlai, Premier of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China
