Reply on the Occasion of the Presentation of Credentials
(June 21, 1957)
It gives me great pleasure to accept the credentials you have presented on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and I wish to express my gratitude for your warm congratulations.

The Chinese people have always taken a keen interest in the achievements and development of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in all fields. The strenuous efforts made by the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to uphold the Korean Armistice Agreement, as well as the numerous reasonable proposals it has put forward for the reunification of Korea and for establishing contacts between the northern and southern parts of the country, are not only supported by all Koreans but also enjoy the sympathy and support of peace-loving peoples throughout the world. In recent years, the mutual visits between the leaders of Korea and those of many socialist countries, together with the growth of friendly relations between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the socialist states, have been of great significance both for consolidating and strengthening the unity of the socialist family headed by the Soviet Union, and for the cause of safeguarding world peace.

Over the past few years, the traditional, fraternal friendship between the peoples of China and Korea has been steadily consolidated and developed. Close cooperation between our two countries in the political, economic, and cultural spheres has already brought substantial practical benefits to both peoples. The Chinese people will continue to strengthen their friendly ties with the Korean people and to lend their support to the latter’s endeavor to achieve the peaceful reunification of their country.

Comrade Ambassador, I warmly welcome you to your post as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the People’s Republic of China. In the course of your work, you may count on my full support and that of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
