I am firmly convinced that your visit will further consolidate and develop the close cooperation and great friendship between our two nations. Should you agree, please inform us of a date for the visit that you deem appropriate. My fellow citizens throughout China and I eagerly anticipate your arrival with the greatest pleasure. With the highest respect, I salute you.

On January 18, 1957, Voroshilov replied to Mao Zedong. His letter read: “It is with deep gratitude that I accept your invitation. If it is convenient for you, I intend to visit the fraternal People’s Republic of China between April 15 and May 5, 1957.”
