Comments on the Draft Resolution
(September 24 and 27, 1956)

Comrade Shang Kun:
Please inform all delegation heads and the leaders of the subgroups from provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions by telephone this morning to immediately study the draft resolution on the Political Report. By 2:00 p.m. today, each subgroup should hold a discussion, jot down any proposed amendments directly on the draft, and submit it to the Secretariat Office. The Secretariat is requested to compile the amendment suggestions from all groups this afternoon and forward them to Comrade Hu Qiaomu for revision.

On September 27, 1956, the Eighth National Congress of the CPC concluded successfully. As Mao Zedong walked out of the venue, he was warmly greeted by delegates and staff members of the congress.

On September 28, 1956, the First Plenary Session of the Eighth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held, electing a new central leadership body. Mao Zedong was elected Chairman of the Central Committee, while Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and Chen Yun were appointed Vice Chairmen, and Deng Xiaoping became General Secretary.
