Approval Comment on Dividing the Nanjing Military Region into Two Regions: Nanjing and Fuzhou

After Liu, Zhou, Zhu, and Xiaoping [1] have reviewed it, return it to Comrade Peng Dehuai [2].
This document has been read. Approval is granted for dividing it into two military regions. Regarding whether Ye Fei, the provincial party secretary, can relinquish his concurrent post, please have Xiaoping and Tan Zhenlin [3] discuss and inform Peng of their decision.

Liu refers to Liu Shaoqi. Zhou refers to Zhou Enlai. Zhu refers to Zhu De. Xiaoping is Deng Xiaoping, who at the time served as Secretary-General of the CPC Central Committee.

Peng Dehuai, then a member of the CPC Central Military Commission, Vice Premier of the State Council, and Minister of National Defense, was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Military Commission.

Refers to Peng Dehuai’s report dated March 28, 1956, proposing to divide the Nanjing Military Region into the Nanjing Military Region (covering Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces) and the Fuzhou Military Region (covering Fujian and Jiangxi provinces), submitted to Mao Zedong.

Ye Fei was at the time Deputy Commander and Commander of the Fujian Military Region of the Nanjing Military Region of the People’s Liberation Army, serving concurrently as Political Commissar and Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, as well as Governor of Fujian Province.
