Seven-Character Quatrain · Five Cloud Mountain[1]
(1955)
On Five Cloud Mountain five-hued clouds fly,
Far touching distant peaks, near brushing the dike[2] embankment.
If you ask where in Hangzhou is the finest spot,
Here within one hears the wild orioles cry.
[1]
Five Cloud Mountain is one of the peaks in the Western Hills of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, adjacent to the Qiantang River. It is said to be named for the five-colored auspicious clouds that linger around the summit for long periods without dispersing.
[2]
