Raising pigs is a major issue related to fertilizer, meat, and the export of pork in exchange for foreign exchange. All cooperatives must include pig raising in their plans, and of course, provinces, prefectures, counties, and districts should all have their own plans. Pig feed is easy to solve—certain green grasses, certain tree leaves, sweet potato vines and leaves, and sweet potatoes are all feed. It is not necessary to use concentrated feed, especially not in large quantities. In addition to collective pig raising by cooperatives, every farming household should be encouraged to raise one to several pigs, achieving this goal over a few years. Certain ethnic minorities that prohibit pig raising and some individual households that are unwilling to raise pigs due to religious customs are naturally excluded from this. Developing the pig-raising industry requires a set of incentive measures, and the experience of Shanghua Cooperative in Zhejiang Province can serve as a reference for other localities.
